5 Ways to Beat Stress in 10 Minutes or Less

1. Spend Some Time With a Pet
A real one–not a kitten video. Furry loved ones have a great way of melting tension away.
A quick snuggle session with Fido or Fluffy can do a lot to make stress seem more manageable. Playing a short game with your pet, like throwing a tennis ball or using a laser pointer, is another fun way to interact.
2. Dance
Maybe you can’t bust a move in the office or your car, but if you’re at home, just turning on one song you like and dancing can help you reset your mind to a more positive space. Don’t worry about looking like a Spice Girl. This isn’t the time to worry about your dancing skills—just let go and move.
3. Tune In
Music has been shown to lower tension levels (at least for you—your neighbors might not agree). Find something with a slower, steady rhythm to help lower your heart rate and soothe your soul.
4. Walk It Out
Get your booty in gear. A short walk around the block can do wonders to help settle your mind. Getting even ten minutes of sunlight per day boost your mood and energy more than a triple shot of vanilla espresso with extra caffeine (just don’t test this theory).
5. Meditate
Just find a calm place to sit or stand, and let your mind relax. You can envision a peaceful scene like a beach or woodland and imagine yourself there. Choose to focus on a soothing abstract image, like a color. If you’re at work, plug in noise canceling headphones and tune out for ten minutes.
